Tracy: Jack, you really look unhappy. I thought you’d be thrilled to be here. What’s wrong? You can tell me!
Jack: Never mind, Tracy. It’s just a slight headache, that’s all. I’ll be fine.
Tracy: It seems to me you never feel well when museums are on the schedule. Aren’t you enjoying the exhibition? Just take it easy, relax! After all, it’s your first time visiting the National Museum of American Art.
Jack: I would if I could, believe me. It’s just annoying when you can’t have fun doing something.
Tracy: Fun? You’re kidding, right? Museums are educational establishments for advancing our knowledge. You’re not expected to have fun like at a dog show or a flower exhibition.
Jack: Oh, come on, this is boring! How much longer are we going to stay here?
Tracy: Hang in there. I promise, it’ll get interesting. Look at that lovely portrait, for instance.
Jack: Okay, it’s not bad. It looks like it must be from the 19^th century. So, I guess you like realism?
Tracy: Actually, I don’t. But I enjoy looking at the hairstyles and dress designs from the past and they’re best shown in realist paintings. I’m really into fashion, as you know.
Jack: Well, I prefer pictures that are true to life, where every leaf and every flower is depicted exactly as it really is.
Tracy: Like in still life paintings?
Jack: Well, yes. If I have to look at art, I’d rather see that kind of picture.
Tracy: Then look over there, there’s a good one. Flowers in a vase, watermelons, grapes, cherries. Yum! It makes my mouth water.
Jack: Now that you mention food, I could do with a snack right now. I haven’t had anything to eat since morning and I’m starving.
Tracy: I’m sure there’s a café on the ground floor. Why don’t we get a bite to eat and then return to the gallery?
Jack: Agreed. And if we have to go back, I’d love to see some landscapes. They’re inspiring!
Tracy: Especially the romantic ones. The dramatic contrasts in romantic landscapes are unbelievable. I’m glad you’re finally beginning to feel more enthusiastic about museums.
Jack: I’m afraid you’ve missed the point. The sooner we begin, the sooner we finish. Let’s go eat something.

A. There are some important facts one should know about the climate in Russia. This country consists of several continental zones. For example, in the north winters are long and harsh, in some places there is lots of snowfall and temperatures fall below –40 degrees Celsius. These winters are normal, not only in the northern regions of the country but even in the Far East. Summers in these areas don’t even see three warm months out of the year.

B. Russia may not be the first to come to mind when you think of a food destination, but this country has plenty of delicious traditional dishes to offer. Visitors are often surprised at the variety and flavour of Russian cuisine, which is influenced by Russia’s connection to different countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The most classic Russian recipes are made of veggies and wheat, such as soups, porridges, and stuffed dough.

C. The main tourist routes in Russia include visits to Moscow and St. Petersburg, resort establishments in the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, the Kaliningrad region, the ski resorts of the Caucasus and Siberia, the Golden Ring of Russia, cruises along the Volga, cruises on an icebreaker to the national park «Russian Arctic», trips on the Trans-Siberian Railway (the Altai Mountains, Lake Baikal), travelling to the volcanoes of Kamchatka and Primorye.

D. New Year’s Day is one of the most important holidays on the Russian calendar. New Year in Russia is a time for being together with family and friends, for gift giving, decorating the New Year tree, and watching and setting off fireworks. Midnight is, by tradition, marked by listening to the Russian Federation President’s greeting and the Kremlin bells chime.

E. The Siberian Husky is a beautiful dog with a thick coat that comes in a multitude of colours and markings. Their blue or multi-coloured eyes add to the appeal of this breed, which originated in Siberia. It is easy to see why many people are enchanted by the Husky, but be aware that this athletic, intelligent dog can be independent and challenging for first-time dog owners.

The Summer Garden in St. Petersburg was personally designed by Peter the Great in 1704. It is home to marble statues acquired from Europe especially for Russia's new capital. It was a A place for courtly life outside the palace, and balls were held here by the nobility. Russian aristocrats also B simply walking in the Garden. In 1777 the Summer Garden was severely damaged by flooding: several statues were destroyed and the fountains were broken. The surviving statues were moved indoors, while modern replicas C their place in the park.

A major park D was the fountains, the oldest ones in Russia. The park was chosen by Alexander Pushkin as a setting for childhood walks of the fictional E Eugene Onegin. The Summer Garden Park remains one of the most F places in St. Petersburg.
