Task 1. You are going to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2 minutes for reading aloud.

Netball is played by over 20 million people in more than 70 countries of the world. It was invented in 1892 as women’s basketball. However, netball is different from basketball in many ways. For example, the ball and the basket are smaller and the court is bigger. The players cannot run with the ball. They are not allowed to touch the players who they are playing with. Netball has seven players in each team (not five as in basketball). During the 20^th century, the game became very popular in English-speaking countries. Traditionally, only girls and women played netball. Nowadays, netball is the number one women’s sport in the world but boys and men are starting to play it too.

Task 2. You are going to take part in a telephone survey. You have to answer six questions. Give full answers to the questions.

Electronic assistant: Hello! It’s the electronic assistant of the magazine School Life. We kindly ask you to take part in our survey. We want to find out what you think about your school. Please answer six questions. The survey is anonymous – you don’t have to give your name. So, let’s get started.

• whether having pets is a big responsibility, and why;
• what your attitude to keeping pets is.

Animals are very important for our planet. I have a cat named Barsik. He is very funny and plays with a ball. I also like dogs, they are loyal friends. In Africa, there are lions and giraffes. I saw them in a movie.

I think people should be kind to all animals. We should not leave them on the street. My friend has a parrot that can talk.

First, people keep pets for companionship and emotional support. Pets help fight loneliness and bring joy. Families with children often get pets to teach responsibility.

In big cities, the most popular pets are cats and small dogs. They fit well in apartments. Hamsters, guinea pigs, and birds like parrots are also common.

Having a pet is a big responsibility. They depend on you for food, water, and care. Pets need daily attention and regular vet visits. They also cost money for food and medicine.

My attitude to keeping pets is positive. I believe pets make life happier. However, you should only get one if you are ready to care for it for many years.

In conclusion, pets are wonderful but require serious commitment. Thank you for listening.
