The ninth planet of the solar system was discovered not long ago. It happened in 1930. Scientists had been hunting for the planet for a long time. They had calculated its probable position but there was no proof that the planet really existed. It was too far away for the telescopes of that time to find it. It’s worth mentioning that the first photos of the planet were taken by a very young researcher. He was only twenty-four and had no formal education in astronomy. However, he was deeply involved in the search for the ninth planet. The planet at the edge of the solar system was called Pluto, after the Roman god. The name for the planet was suggested by an 11-year-old British girl.

Task 2. You are going to take part in a telephone survey. You have to answer six questions. Give full answers to the questions.

Electronic assistant: Hello! It’s the electronic assistant of the Dolphin Sports Club. We kindly ask you to take part in our survey. Task 3. You are going to give a talk about reading books. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences).
Remember to say:
• what kind of books modern teenagers enjoy reading;
• whether libraries are necessary nowadays or not, and why;
• what book you have read recently, and what it was about;
• what your attitude to reading is.

My grandmother loves to read detective stories. I prefer to use my phone. Many people buy books in shops. I have been to a big library in the city centre once. It was very quiet there. I also like stories about animals. My favourite animal is a dog. I think it's good when people read.

Modern teenagers often read fantasy and dystopian novels. These books are full of adventure and magic.

I think libraries are still important. They offer free books and a quiet place to study or work.

Recently, I read «The Hobbit». It’s a classic fantasy story about a small hobbit’s big adventure.

My attitude to reading is very positive. It helps me relax and learn new things. I think it’s a useful hobby for everyone.

Good afternoon. Today I’d like to share some thoughts about books and reading, which is a very interesting activity for many people around the world.

Reading habits can be very different for everyone. Some of my friends prefer to watch films based on books rather than read them. I think it’s a personal choice.

Speaking about places to get books, online stores are very convenient nowadays. You can order any book and get it delivered to your home quickly. It saves a lot of time.

I enjoy stories, but I don’t always remember the titles of the books I look at. Sometimes I just read interesting articles on the internet or news on my phone.

In general, I believe that any activity that involves getting new information is useful. People can learn a lot from different sources, not only from books.

To sum up, there are many ways to spend your free time, and reading is just one of them. Thank you for your attention.
